Too Much Sleep Could Be Just As Dangerous As Too Little
It is increasingly well know that sleep plays an important role in our overall health and well being. But the more that scientists learn about the impact of getting too little sleep, as well as too much, it is becoming more and more clear that our bodies have evolved to get a very specific amount of sleep, and that both too little and too much can be harmful. The most recent evidence of this comes from a study conducted by the Department of Public Health and Primary Care at the University of Cambridge in the United Kingdom. A team lead by Yue Leng and recently published its findings in the journal Neurology, and have revealed that sleeping too much may lead to an increased risk of stroke. Continue reading

Is Sleep Surplus Just as Bad For You As Sleep Deprivation?
We’ve all heard the news about sleep deprivation and the various health risks that have been associated with it: obesity, depression, cardiovascular problems, diabetes, high blood pressure. We’ve been told repeatedly that we should make seven to nine hours of sleep per night a priority, with each of us falling somewhere within that two hour window for the amount of sleep that is appropriate for us. It’s not often that you hear about people being at risk for sleeping too long, but now a study has been published that says that there is just as great a risk of dying earlier for those that sleep too long as for those who are sleeping too little. World Sleep Day 2015
Friday, March 13th marked the celebration of World Sleep Day, an annual event created by the World Association of Sleep Medicine (WASM) to raise awareness of the importance of sleep. It is designed to both educate the public as well as to inspire action, letting people know that lack of sleep can have a devastating impact on their ability to learn, so feel good and especially to drive safely.
